East and Central Europe Series

In 1988, Social Research instituted a periodic series devoted to East and Central Europe. The issues in this series have attempted to track and examine major manifestations of the transitions to democracy and to market economies and, increasingly, have examined problems faced by both Western and Eastern countries, with an awareness that the sources and manifestations of these problems are not the same. The series on Central and Eastern Europe now includes ten issues on topics ranging from nationalism to democratization, from prospects for the welfare state to the concept of civil society.
